The restoration process needs to be attended to immediately, to ensure the best possible outcome. The sooner you take action, the less severe the water damage becomes and the sooner a water damage professional can be on-site to begin the fixing or drying services.

Once water has invaded, the damage can be much more than what lies on the surface. Not only can furniture, carpets, and flooring be destroyed, but mould can grow in a home which has not been properly cleaned and dried, thus causing health dangers for the occupants inside. Unfortunately, this mould can sometimes go unnoticed for quite some time until it finally creeps out of the walls where it is living

Overview on My Defits behalf:

  • Assessment of the affected areas
  • Ensure cause of the problem is contained
  • Immediate extraction
  • Moisture detection to building structure, underlay and carpeted areas
  • In the case of sewage contamination, health and safety regulations must be adhered to
  • Underlay inspection - possible removal if required
  • Anti microbial treatment - reducing the growth of mould and bacteria
  • Appropriate drying system identified and implemented
  • Carpet and or underlay replaced or cleaned

internal wall drying

Wallboards can be saved if they are attended to without delay and with the correct manner. Our company has systems that can dry the inner wall cavities without having to rip off all panels. And, you can be left with dry walls inside and out without that lingering damp smell.

With most internal walls, they are generally made of Gyprock and not Blue board or some other waterproof composite. That means the wall boards will absorb water extremely fast!

Wallboards of Gyprock left to dry on their own with the evaporation process will weaken the boards to then have them become soft and or even flimsy. Next time you have something bang on them lightly, you’ll find yourself an immediate hole!

With moisture left in walls you’ll have your next big problem, the growth of mould. Mould is an omnipresent. Airborne mould spores are usually located in all businesses and homes, is located both indoors and outdoors, but remains largely dormant until the right conditions exist for its release and multiplication. Mould will often multiply and spread by water or warm damp areas. It can spread to a whole range of materials such as timber, concrete, tiles, carpets and plasterboard.

Tips to avoid the growth of mould

  • Ventilation allows air to circulate freely throughout the area,  allowing for areas of moisture to dry out more quickly.
  • Leakages from taps, pipes and roofs are often harbouring the perfect
conditions for a mould problem to start.
  • Downpipes should drain into soak wells to ensure drainage away from the house
  • Cluttered spaces ask for darkness, stagnant air and moisture build up.

Mould can seem like a simple problem, but when left untreated can become a health risk. To remove and treat mould, we take the following steps:

  • Inspection
  • Mould Species identification
  • Conceal area
  • The removal of walls and gyprock if needed
  • Chemical treatment
  • Professional drying - specialised drying systems will be places strategically in order to effectively dry out the affect area
